As a women's rights and gender equality advocate, I ventured to Tanzania, Africa in February 2015 for a chance to help educate young women about their rights as human beings and their potential to become future leaders within their community. Sharing a moment in laughter with these beautiful Maasai women was absolutely priceless. Their resilience against deep-rooted traditions of old that prove harmful to their health and basic human rights is astounding. I have learned so much from them.
I joined Christy Turlington, International Supermodel and Founder of Every Mother Counts on her journey through the clinics of Monduli, Tanzania, to film footage for a continuation of "No Woman, No Cry," her documentary promoting the importance of prenatal care/safe childbirth for all mothers and creating awareness that 90% of all childbirth related deaths are preventable if only healthcare was accessible. The reality is that most of the time, it is not, thus her mission to implement change for mothers all over the world.
I came to Tanzania to demand change by teaming with the nonprofit AfricAid and educating young women that they DO have a voice that DOES matter. Through AfricAid's program known as The Kisa Project, these beautiful shining faces are able to attend school and discover their full potential beyond what society dictates for them. Nothing could have strengthened my spirit more than that of the internal fire within these young women to create change and believe in a new future of female leaders.
Loud colors and loud music accent Cartagena's vibrant personality perfectly. The vivacious streets and beats provide so much creative inspiration. One of my absolute favorite cities in Colombia.
Thailand is pure magic. From the neon body painting of the Full Moon Parties on the islands of Ko Phi Phi to the spiritual awakenings and vibrantly colored petal offerings at the temples of Chiang Mai, your lust for adventure meets creative bliss - making for one spectacular experience.
